ŽOFIE KUMŠTOVÁ

Žofie Kumštová (*1991) is a painter of paintings imbued with dark melancholy and tension. She creates seemingly banal scenery, full of familiar objects, but also psychological "landscapes" that provide the viewer with an insight into an alternate reality. Rather than existential themes, it is closer to a kind of magical realism - perhaps also for the author's love for symbolism and interwar surrealism. She mastered a wide range of painting techniques, from classical oil painting to washed-out ink paintings. For example, she also devotes herself to serigraphy, which for her means expanding the painting approach.
